Moogfest, I Miss You… See you next year?
Highlights from Day Two of Moogfest:
It was a very good day. Evidence below…
If there is anything that choosing a career in photography has taught me, it is that you can wake up in the morning thinking you will be editing wedding photos all day, but instead find yourself in a city you have never been to, standing next your idol and living legend, Brian Eno. That is exactly what happened on Thursday, October 27th. By Friday, I was taking the pictures you see here on the first day of Moogfest in Asheville, NC for NPR’s All Songs Considered.
I think I chose the right profession.
Featured Bands: Atlas Sound, Austra, Holy F**K, Moby, Tangerine Dream, The Field, TV on the Radio.
My favorite thing listed in the wiki article about Weekend’s unbelievably good album Sports? (mp3, vinyl, cd)
“Sports was also mentioned in Sports Illustrated alongside Huey Lewis‘ album with the same name.”
Whoever wrote that is a genius.
Here are some pictures of a perfect band playing in an extremely dark (and red) room:
I vote for Swans to soundtrack the apocalypse. I could have given you that answer 10 seconds after walking into Fletcher Opera Hall. It was like listening to a Glenn Branca guitar symphony interpreted by Neurosis. Jaw droppingly intense and a true testament to the quality of musical acts picked for Hopscotch.
I opted for the long lens for this one, shooting from the back of the hall and adding the 1.7x teleconverter for a little extra reach on some. The magenta and blue hues in the lighting balanced nicely and gave an entirely different look from each side of the stage. Luckily the ambient was high enough to afford some nice action stopping shutter speeds, especially with the aperture dropping teleconverter added on.
You know who’s psyched for a new Japandroids record? Adam David Kissick, that’s who.
